ABOUT
Art Reaching Out is a multi-disciplinary program that seeks to involve students in the creation of art pieces for public display using a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) based approach. ARO works in conjunction with cultural studies and often involves a focus on a predetermined international/regional artist or social issue. The ARO program also specifically works with female and underserved student groups and features various layers of community involvement. ARO leads students and groups through STEAM-based hands-on learning exercises and applies these lessons in real life creative working environments to make public and large-scale art pieces. Mentors who have followed their passion lead the projects and speak to the students. Students are exposed to real world trades, where they have the opportunity to learn and experience the different roles that are required to create large scale installations. The students are encouraged to collaborate and are involved with the entire process along the way.
